Katarina Witt began to ice skate at the age five years old. Her talent soon became obvious, and she gained entry to a special school for children with a talent for sport in Karl-Marx-Stadt. Her coach Jutta was also at the school. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. Her grace and elegance captured the attention of everyone immediately, and from that point ahead she became the dominant figure skater in the game.
